The “Balboa Park Carousel Egg” is the centerpiece of the GIA’s Museum to last 18 months. In May of 2010, it will become the focus of a year-long exhibit at the San Diego natural History Museum
The Balboa was eighteen years in construction, utilizing 6,000+ handmade components, 22K gold, platinum and diamonds for the surface development. This is an obsessively accurate model of the Balboa Park Carousel in the Museum Complex of San Diego California. Encased in an egg, powered with a complex musical mechanism playing 20 Victorian & Edwardian tunes in synchronization with the movement of the carousel animals. All the mechanism’s action is visible through the hand formed 55% lead optical crystal.
The Little Red Egg The little red egg was formed due to my love of the works of Faberge and Cartier. Phil Roberts and I worked together on this piece which represents my interpretation (one of them) and a shared commitment to the art that Philip and I share. Although we both sculpt our medias are different. This egg represents our best - as a team, as artists, and as visual entertainers.
